The Specials (originally The special AKA) formed in 1977 by Jerry Dammers, Lynval Golding, and Horace Panter under the name 'The Coventry Automatics' and a year later Terry Hall and Roddy Byers joined and the band became The Special AKA. They enjoyed success until 1981 when the band broke up, but were an important contribution to the punk/ska/two-tone movement. They shared management with The Clash in 1979 and toured with them briefly gaining industry notoriety. Ska...try not to forget, there was a resurrection in the late seventies and early eighties...but now, pretty much underground. The Specials...a perfect example of cultures coming together - BRILLIANT! -Mr.-
