B.o.B - "Generation Lost"
"Generation Lost" by B.O.B. THANK YOU LORD, good music still exists. You might have seen him on the cover of XXL with Wale, Charles Hamilton, and Asher Roth...my opinion - B.O.B. leads the pack. He has a unique talent in that he produces, writes, raps, arranges, and mixes his own music, sings and plays the guitar. The Beatles sampled "Lonely People" off the 'Who The F#*k is B.O.B?' mixtape is another testament to his genius. Signed to Grand Hustle/Rebel Rock/Atlantic B.O.B. is rated - NEXT. ATL, taking the lead once again. -Mr.-

"The Castellano" by Mosley Tribes. Straight 1970's mafia hit man. Walk in the mix and tell em Big Lou sent you...even if you don't know a Lou, you aren't Italian, and you dress like a skater...they'll get the point, this cat is about his business. Mosley Tribes...forget about it! -Mr.-

FASHION

"The Ninety Five Tee" by Alphanumeric. No logo, no imagery, no statement, just good old fashion design. The linear placement is spot on, and the black to grey palette topped with mint green works well against the heather grey. All-in-all, a dope piece. Two thumbs up Brasil style. -Mr.-

FASHION

"McQueen" by Clae. Clean, sophisticated...proper. Leather selection - on point, sole - vans meet converse, lacing - I'm feeling the folded flaps, in a nutshell - staple piece. Clae bridge the gap between street and casual like no other...originating, never duplicating. Rated - mature. -Mr.-

KNOW YOUR PAST

Otis Redding (September 9, 1941 – December 10, 1967). Soul singing genius/one of the best in the game...hands down. His voice was distinct, his deliverance was full of emotion and soul, his lyrics were inspirational and full of love. KNOW YOUR PAST! Born in Georgia, Otis started touring with Johnny Jenkins (guitarist extraordinaire) and his back up band The Pinetoppers in 1960. Shortly after he recorded his first original work with The Pinetoppers, and in 1962 recorded "These Arms Of Mine" with some left over studio time Jenkins donated after finishing his own session. The rest is history. Otis Redding...cultural hero. My two favorite tracks - "These Arms Of Mine" and "Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay". Interesting note - "Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay" was recorded three days before Redding died in a plane crash, and was considered unfinished. Apparently he had intended on composing lyrics for the final verse which he had whistled in the original recording. -Mr.-

WTF

Today police will report on the results of a closed circuit television(CCTV) six-month pilot project, arguing that cameras deter crime, the budget should be increased, and cameras should be placed throughout the city. My perspective - police surveillance cameras = fu$k that! Crime is directly related to economic inequality, and the social and cultural environments that shape citizens identities, perspectives and ultimately their actions. We live in a capitalist society drunk off greed, we are constantly bombarded by visuals that promote material need, and our status is defined by an economic cast system that worships the rich and shuns the poor. Our leaders, both corporate and political are driven by profit and have created a society of haves and have nots. CAMERAS! Are you kidding?

Crime isn't something that is deterred by 24/7 surveillance, it must be eradicated by removing poverty and social inequalities. We promote the individual and turn our backs on the whole, and we aspire to be "better than" instead of helping one another attain the same ends...this is the problem. The SUN wrote..."The standard argument against security cameras -- that they are a "Big Brother" invasion of privacy, is silly." Silly? Reporting at its finest people. Select the weakest argument and attack it. What do you think of this argument? I believe cameras will not solve problems, they will simply create a low period in criminal activities while criminals devise new ways of working around this trivial "obstacle". Now, don't get me wrong, schools - good idea, TTC (where employees are threatened on a regular basis) - good idea, what I don't agree with is increasing the budget and placing cameras on every corner...cause you know what - it IS an invasion of privacy, and in the end...it's human nature to survive by any means necessary, crime being one of those means.

Look at the big picture. Society is ill, crime is simply one of the symptoms. Cameras? A generation ago Martin Luther King Jr. was at the top of the CIA's public enemy list, a year ago George Bush was president of the "free" world, in this day and age the definition of a criminal is too loose to make the assumption our authoritative leaders won't use such a devise for the wrong reasons. Blind faith is a dangerous mistress. Like I said...police surveillance cameras = fu$k that! -Mr.-

DOWN PRESSED

I am but a man trapped in a time that seems unfamiliar, born to goals and expectations that feel false, a son of god born amongst brothers and sisters that walk alone. I am a thinker, a creative soul inventing in a time of cloned ideas and old philosophies. A poor man without a penny forced to work in a factory that produces the same. Chained to debt, a slave to the economic burden of success and all the material goods that are associated with a dream dreamt by selfish men. I am awake. Surrounded by greed and false idols constructing empires built on sand, I stand on solid ground at the centre of it all. I am a child of Babylon. -Mr.-

Metric "Gimme Sympathy" split screen version. from On Set on Vimeo.

Behind the scenes is often just as interesting as in front of the lens. Apparently this version of the video was an after thought, the band wanted to showcase the mayhem of the actual shoot itself and run both perspectives simultaneously. Simple, yet genius. -Mr.-

"Never Sleep" Joell Ortiz feat. Mr. Probz. Hellz muthfu$kin YES! Brooklyn coming something fierce. Joell Ortiz...keepin it grimy, real, and bangin like brothels. I'm sick of all these rappers FRONTING, trying to fit the mold. Fu$k the mold...break that ish. "Chill" loafers by Ben Sherman. I'm not a big fan of Ben Sherman kicks, more so of the casual line, but the "Chill" has just transformed my perspective. Crisp, and oh so clean. The black on black leather and suede are perfectly placed, and the converse style sole is a classic staple that can only elevate your design. The perforated edge on the toe is a nice addition. Dope! "The Chill"...proves that stepping outside of your comfort zone can lead to great things. -Mr.-

CINEMATIC DOPE

"A Bronx Tale" (1993) written by/starring Chazz Palminteri, directed by/starring Robert De Niro...need I say more. Surprisingly, not a lot of people have seen this gem of a film, therefore I see it as my duty to inform the masses. Brilliant! The trailer touches on one side of the tale, which is that of a blue collar family trying to maintain values amongst the fast money lifestyle of the neighborhood mob. Calogero 'C' Anello (Lillo Brancato) is the son of Lorenzo Anello (De Niro), a bus driver in the Bronx who despite his attempts to guide his son along the right path, loses Calogero to the local mob boss Sonny (Chazz Palminteri). What most reviews and write ups fail to mention however is the love story that is at the heart of this film, between Calogero and Jane (Taral Hicks), a young black girl from the wrong side of the tracks "so to say". What makes this film unique is it's ability to cover the transforming climate of the Bronx in the sixties, the Mafia's grip on everyday social activities, race relations, and the lack of respect for the working man...a major problem in today's egotistical economy. A must see, one of my favorite films of all time! -Mr.-

ART FORMS

Christina Koutsospyrou "Kiss1" and "Kiss 2". Christina is a London-based illustrator best known for her depictions of contemporary culture. I'm a big fan of digitally enhanced illustrations and believe the medium is virtually limitless. Adobe has taken the illustration to knew heights and has opened the door for artists restricted by pen and pencil. Christina has clearly mastered this technique. -Mr.-

"The Science" by Murs. Home boy hits and misses, hits and misses. Back in the day Murs was the freestyle king, one of the tightest members of The Living Legends Crew, and straight up G. I remember telling my brother...with a little bit of money and the right label Murs could be unstoppable. But like Aceyalone, Planet Asia etc...bad choices and inconsistencies produced album flop, after album flop. 'The Science' is an example of his potential...top fu$king shelf, point blank period.
