KNOW YOUR PAST

Otis Redding (September 9, 1941 – December 10, 1967). Soul singing genius/one of the best in the game...hands down. His voice was distinct, his deliverance was full of emotion and soul, his lyrics were inspirational and full of love. KNOW YOUR PAST! Born in Georgia, Otis started touring with Johnny Jenkins (guitarist extraordinaire) and his back up band The Pinetoppers in 1960. Shortly after he recorded his first original work with The Pinetoppers, and in 1962 recorded "These Arms Of Mine" with some left over studio time Jenkins donated after finishing his own session. The rest is history. Otis Redding...cultural hero. My two favorite tracks - "These Arms Of Mine" and "Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay". Interesting note - "Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay" was recorded three days before Redding died in a plane crash, and was considered unfinished. Apparently he had intended on composing lyrics for the final verse which he had whistled in the original recording. -Mr.-
