CINEMATIC DOPE

Brilliant! Something to look forward to this fall. The celebrated children's picture book 'Where the Wild Things Are' by Maurice Sendak is a classic tale about a boy named Max who is sent to his room after making mischief, and shortly after drifts into an imaginary world full of mythical creatures known as The Wild Things. A simple yet effective analysis of anger, Sendak's tale is regarded as classic American children's literature...rightly so. After viewing this clip a sudden feeling of nostalgia rolled over me, followed by a yearning to be a kid again, free from bills, politics, and the weight of a world which is far more complex than we are led to believe as children. A definite must see. -Mr.-

KNOW YOUR PAST

"Message to the Messengers" by Gil Scott Heron. Listen to the words, I mean really soak this $hit in. Born in Chicago in 1949, raised in the Bronx from age thirteen...Gil was a product of his environment. He is known for his poetry, music, and written works, but most importantly his activism. He teamed up with Brian Jackson in the late sixties, and went on to create a musical fusion of jazz, blues and soul music, laced with strong lyrical content which reflected the social and political climate of the time. Two great works - "Pieces Of A Man" and "Winter In America." This track is extremely relevant and should be heard by all those who are lucky enough to entertain the attention of the masses. It's about time you grew up. -Mr.-

ART FORMS

Kehinde Wiley: Down. For those unfamiliar with Brooklynite Kehinde Wiley, two words - NEXT LEVEL. These images are from his 'Down' series that exhibited late last year at Deitch Projects, NY. The show was comprised of seven large scale works inspired by images of fallen warriors, saints, and classical mythology. The 411 - Kehinde is known for making figurative paintings that quote historical sources and position young black men within those fields of ‘power.’ His heroic figures, slightly larger than life size, are depicted in poses of power and spiritual awakening. In a nutshell - old school imagery with modern day subjects...a winning combination! -Mr.-

Shai Agassi discusses the future of the electric car. Innovations free us from limitations. War isn't the answer people, freeing ourselves from resource dependency and the blind act of financing our "so called" enemies IS. Sometimes we must sacrifice that which we know, excessive comfort, and old habits in order to bring about positive change and long term stability. ACT LIKE YOU KNOW! -Mr.-

LIFE SHIT

I am but a man. Life is a struggle, full of ups and downs. I've been stumbling for quite some time now, but feel stability entering my stride. To all of those affected by the mistakes I have made - I am sorry. My horoscope today read...

"Reflections can't just be found in mirrors, you know. If you want to catch a glimpse of your true self today, you need to be honest and accept your imperfections. Trying to pretend you are perfect isn't fooling anyone, and it could limit your growth. Put away your ego and you will be able to learn a valuable lesson about your insecurities. Who you are is not predetermined. You are a work in process. You can make all the changes you want to make, you just have to start."

How true. In an attempt to assure myself life keeps moving, I once told someone they didn't make or break me. The truth is they made me, and without them I would be broken. Sometimes things need to break in order to be fixed. In a world full of mistakes, forgiveness is one of the greatest thrills man will ever experience. Good luck to you all. -Mr.-

ART FORMS

Courtesy of Cool Hunting. Dope! Aside from the murals that have given graffiti worldwide PR...there are tags, a.k.a. Pixacao. When I was in Rio it amazed me how every building in the city was tagged, from street level easily accessible walls to the sides of apartment building's hundreds of feet in the air - EVERYWHERE! Crazy. Whether you agree or disagree with Pixacao...it is still an art form, changing the cityscape one building at a time. -Mr.-

WTF

MTV is garbage. I don't subscribe to cable...a blessing, but every now and then I catch up on my cable fix and have come to the realization it is no coincidence that MTV is located in The Masonic Temple...it is designed to dumb down and retard cultural growth. The Hills is one of the most vain, shallow, boring series on television, the characters are an embarrassment to Californians, and why we focus on such idiotic individuals is beyond me. Is there no other focus in this world worth documenting? The hosts of MTV Canada are borderline NERD (and not in a cool way), some have clearly crossed that line and the producers are too lazy to distinguish between talent and mundane. The skits are unimaginative and the topics of discussion are adolescent...I know you are targeting a specific demographic, but PLEASE give the tweens some credit. Don't even get me started on Paul. Much Music is nothing to be proud of, but damn, they make you guys look like a bunch of b class wannabees grasping at straws. Daryn needs to quit and rethink his career...all he has is The Buzz, like Maestro has Let Your Back Bone Slide. We desperately need to find NEW talent. In a nut shell...MTV is a joke...I feel sorry for the teens of this generation. Two thumbs down - Brasil style. -Mr.-
